After finishing \u201chuman\u201d (humanistic profile in high school) and well-passed baccalaureat (it surprises me immensely until today how much a discord there was between pressing for and scaring with this exam and actual difficulty, including high\/extended levels) I moved to Warsaw and started studying psychology on rules of Multi-Faculty Humanistic and Social Studies. Thanks to my parents\u2019 support and contrary to my former class\u2019s choices who, in majority, chose law. I\u2019ve always been a bit of a rebel. Then I tried Witcher 3 for the first and it was on the release - our native masterpiece based on Andrzej Sapkowski\u2019s novels. Amazing game, amazing story, 10 years passed and it\u2019s still able to give joy, move, sadden, provoke thoughts (here a spoiler alert - available below the text). And absolutely top quality dubbing.<\/p>\n
University - it was a good time, intense, engaged, full of beautiful memories and valuable experiences, especially considering workshops when we used to sit in the circle and talk. Also the Scientific Circle of Sports Psychology helped a lot. The only major disadvantage was, ignoring some organizational issues, lack of support to transfer from studying to working, from a student to a professional, practitioner. Therefore I tried a variety of jobs myself - from radio journalism I didn\u2019t actually earn anything and a perspective to go pro was unlikely to fulfill so I eventually resigned. I also tried to become a volleyball umpire but I failed the course (probably due to handwriting, wasn\u2019t very clear, my handwriting isn\u2019t that bad!) 4th, 5th year I was already voluntarily consulting gamers and I event wanted to start a company connected with soft skills workshops but then a Chinese ate a bat and a major historical event happened and everything became unsure.<\/p>\n

During the same time I started playing League of Legends, I even had my own teams, but neither being a player nor a coach there was really my thing. No, I was always much more into mentality, both considering mental health, growth, education, not necessarily doing research. So the specialization I chose at university was about supporting growth among adults. I used my gamin experiences to write a master\u2019s thesis about emotion regulation among gamers and the impact of having wide variety of emotion regulation techniques on the rank. It turned out to be statistically insignificant (training and talent have much more impact on performance, who\u2019ve have thought that?!) at least for general gamers population sample. At the end of the day I passed my graduation exam online (sic!) and became a master without any job perspectives.<\/p>\n
It was a bad time, full of passiveness, senselessness and hopelessness. From this one I drew a very important thought, conclusion phrase: there\u2019s no joy in being passive. Joy is always in acting. One must act, work, do things for yourself and others to be happy. I used to play then a lot in Elder Scrolls Online, I used to raidlead a lot, I was really good at some point, however problems with the internet connection and later on starting a job and - most importantly I think, developers choices, made me finally resign. However self-confidence in using English gained while playing, speaking, leading let me, in consecutive years pass CAE, CELTA course and CPE and become an English teacher. Getting used to work was difficult and stressful but I managed and I really have liked the job - after all it\u2019s working with people, groups, similar to a psychological one, although here the trained skill isn\u2019t the soft one so the tools are different.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Thanks to even other game, this time one russian mobile game, I met my wife. I proposed in 2024, we got married one year later, the best man became my long-time online gaming friend in LEague of Legends and Elder Scrolls Online - Cyprian and the majority of wedding\u2019s gift went to post-graduate studies in Academy of Sports Psychology to finally with sensible, with competence and decent autopromotion be able to help players in finding balance between gaming and life. Because a gamer is most importantly a human being with a body, relationships, problems, their own story and goals. Therefore I decided to take the mission seriously and act professionally. To feel the vibe of esports I have been testing on myself for a few years known techniques from mental coaching, goal setting tools in the chosen esports title. The choice is EA FC (former FIFA) which also inspired my to come back to playing real life football and care about my own body.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I hope that the story of my life shows that you can play video games a lot and still live a good life and maybe even live better than without games and that games actually help in tackling problems and overcoming crisises not cause them. I am fully convinced that most of gamers\u2019 problems don\u2019t come from the sheer nature of a computer programme but from the misuse, wrong attitude and from a variety of out of gaming issues e. g. abusive relationships, poor education quality, work or financial problem.
